The Camberwell Dragons have recently announced their 2019 Big V Division Two Men’s import, and he’s one you always have to keep your eye on!
The Camberwell Dragons would like to welcome Max Barkeley to their team for the 2019 season. Barkeley looks to be a perfect fit for a team looking to improve on their 2018 season. After finishing 3rd in the regular season last year before then being eliminated from finals by a strong Mildura team, the team has added more scoring power to their roster to support team MVP Nathaniel O’Hara on the offensive end.
Barkeley comes to the Dragons with an impressive resume. In his NCAA Career – he played 54 games at Victor Valley College in California, where he averaged 16.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, setting the school record for career threes made with 172. He then transferred to Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada in 2016 and averaged a team-high 16.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
At the conclusion of his NCAA career, negotiations with the Halifax Hurricanes of the National Basketball League of Canada fell through in November 2016. So he began competing in competitive mixed martial arts, compiling a 4-2 MMA record before relocating to Australia to resume basketball career.
Coach Mark Jeffers had this to say about Max, ‘He seems like a perfect fit for our group both on the court and off it. By adding his three point shooting ability to the team, it not only stretches the floor for our post play but also allows more space for the rest of us to operate overall. We are stoked to have him playing for us this upcoming season.’
The association is very excited to announce that Max will be joining the Big V program in 2019. We are looking forward to seeing Max on the floor adding great depth to Mark’s team, and seeing him perform in Australia. He is a great addition that will give this group the power to take it the next couple of steps forward in its ambition to win a Championship.
